‘Where’s the Dragon?’ Chinese animated movie set for January 2017 U.S. release
With a release planned for Jan. 27, 2017, in time for next year’s Chinese New Year, Crimson Forest Films and Hannover House are bringing to U.S. shores the $10m Chinese 3D animated film Where’s the Dragon?.
Released in China last November, this animated film features the voice talents of Zhang Ziyi and Wang Leehom. The story tells of a young girl who joins forces with the animals of the Chinese Zodiac to find a dragon that has mysteriously disappeared.
The movie is written and directed by VFX veteran Sing Choong Foo who is known internationally for his superb visual effects work on Spider-Man, Beowulf and Men In Black II.
Eric Parkinson, CEO of Hannover House says, “The animation quality is comparable with the best of the major studios, and we are confident that American audiences will respond strongly to this film.” Hannover House are supervising the English-language version of the film using US talent which will be voiced in both Los Angeles and in Fayetteville, Arkansas, under a production partnership with Crisp Recording and Filmworks.
“We’re excited to bring diversity and quality storytelling from around the world to audiences in North America,” said Jonathan Lim of Crimson Forest. “The story of the Chinese zodiac is both educational and entertaining and is the perfect way to celebrate Chinese New Year with the family this year.”
Where’s the Dragon?
As many of you may already know, the Chinese zodiac calendar assigns a different animal to each year in a repeating 12 year cycle. When all the animals are present, the universe is calm, however when Dragon goes missing, the world begins to spiral into chaos! It’s up to Jen, a 10 year old girl, together with her new Zodiac friends Pig, Sheep and Horse to find Dragon and restore balance to the earth.
If Dragon is not found, the Jade Emperor has threatened to hold another Zodiac race, open to all animals with the promise of replacing the existing Zodiac.
Our heroine Jen is forced initially to unite all the Zodiac animals and then find Dragon before it’s too late. To complicate and threaten matters a dark enemy from the shadows awaits them!
