If you live close to Knoxville, TN, USA, you really must visit the Dragon Lights Festival held at the Midway at Chilhowee Park and Exposition Center running from March 16th to April 22nd 2018.
Dragon Lights is Knoxville’s first-ever Chinese lantern festival and it features 42 larger-than-life lantern displays each containing thousands of light components. Each display is made onsite by Chinese artisans, so passionate about keeping this ancient tradition alive that they spend their lives traveling the world making these amazing structures. Each beautiful lantern is handmade with silk fabric stretched over a steel frame, a tradition that is passed down from one generation to the next.
In addition to lanterns, there will be nightly performances and handicrafts such as inner bottle painting and traditional Chinese sugar painting. Evening performances include vase balancing, juggling, Chinese Yoyo, acrobatics, and plate spinning from genuine Chinese performers. You will also be able to buy food and beverages of the highest quality and taste.
Knoxville’s Dragon Lights Festival is open from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly, with optimal viewing beginning around 7:30 p.m when the lanterns are in best seen illuminating the night sky just after sunset. Ticket prices range from $10 to $16 and discounted tickets are available for military, seniors, students, and groups. There is free of charge parking available onsite!
